Restoration and Conservation:
I do accept some 'selected' work for restoration, conservation or repair, on quality instruments. However, there can be a long lead time, especially in the case of complicated restoration/conservation work. ( Some of my conservation work has been carried out for the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Metropolitan Museum New York, and for many other collections, public and private.) For smaller repairs and set-up work, this can sometimes be accommodated sooner, subject to a 'minimum charge'. I do use specialist outworkers on occasion if required, and this work is carried out to the highest standard, and carries the usual guarantee of work done in my own studio. I am also available to do 'emergency' work for professional players who need their instruments put back into use urgently.
Bow re-hairs are usually done for 'next day'.
Set Up: I specialise in cello 'set up', ( but can attend to violins and violas too!) and I am able to advise on ways to enhance and maximise tonal potential of your old cello. ( I do not work on other current makers cellos). This includes neck projection adjustment, fingerboard horizontal slant, camber, string choices, bridge replacement or correction, correct tailpiece type and adjustment, endpin options and post adjustments, as well as wolf note minimization techniques.
Enquire please.
