Violin, Baroque model, after Jakob Stainer 1660
A baroque model violin, after Jakob Stainer, 1660, the original of which I had in my possession for a few weeks before it went to the Shrine to Music Collection, Vermillion, Dakota, USA. One piece back of slab sawn birds eye maple, with figure, a truly superb example of this rare wood with ribs to match- Table of open grained Alpine spruce, neck as per the original, i.e. set almost flat, with the thicker heel, and short fingerboard of poplar, veneered all round in ebony, pegs of boxwood. Tailpiece in baroque style, set up here with authentic 'Gamut' gut strings. Bass bar as per original, ie very short. This instrument was commissioned in 1991, and has since been traded back for another model and is in 'as new' condition, sold with a 'lifetime warrantee' as are all my own instruments. Price £3800
